Love and Shame

I’ve been reading more by Brené Brown. I love her research and the stories she shares. The chapter I just finished talks about shame, and the differences in how it is experienced for men and women.

She writes that in her research she’s found for women it’s mostly about physical appearance and for men it’s primarily linked to perceived weakness.

Her research also shows that, no matter the cause or trigger, the solution is the same – the concept of enough. No matter what darkness we might each struggle with, what gender we identify as, what personal and cultural trauma narratives impact our story, resiliency lies in knowing we are enough just as we are. Powerful messaging. And beautifully true.
