You Are My I Love You

The title of a very sweet board book my aunt gifted us with last summer. I remember when she gave it to us, she said it caught her eye because every child needs plenty of nonsense in their lives. True that.

The more I read this book, the more I fall in love with it. And the more the nonsense make sense:

I am your calm face; you are my giggle. I am your wait; you are my wiggle…..I am your water wings; you are my deep. I am your open arms; you are my running leap…I am your way home; you are my new path.

What is parenthood, if not a running leap onto a new path? Each of our children brings with them new opportunities to step into our deep places, carve out new ways of being, and re-embrace how to giggle and wiggle.

I love that this book says it all in lyrical rhyme. Saying what we need to with love and playfulness is where the magic of parenting lies. It keeps us open, allows space for vulnerability, and lets the light shine in those difficult moments.

Most of all, it keeps us grounded in what matters most ~ the joy of bringing these amazing humans into the world and witnessing their journey.
